Inspiration

Inspiration is an interesting thing. It’s difficult to seek out; it seems to just come to you.

That’s why I started Pretty Things. I have had a chronic issue of keeping tabs open of beautiful websites, nice prints, complex textures, etc. open for days and sometimes even weeks because I don’t want to lose them. I had given up bookmarking them long ago because there was no easy way to visualize what I was looking for. Plus, it cluttered up my bookmarks folder.

And so, I started Pretty Things as a way to visually bookmark it and tag them, so I could go back and look through them. Even if I never did, I like the fact that I’d have some place for it.

I figured I’d use Posterous, a service that allows you post to your blog using email. It was nice and easy, and since getting my iPhone, the “ideal” way to send photos of things that inspire me out in the world.

Recently (as in today), I’ve wanted to share things on the blog that required a bit more manual intervention than I wanted. Yes, I am lazy, but that’s only because I know that there is technology out there that enables me to be lazy. Why do something the computer can do already?

And so, I switched over to tumblr to run this blog because:

  1. It already has the email functionality that Posterous boasts (which also means my screenshotous that did the screenshots for Pretty Things will work just fine. Maybe I’ll rename it to screenshotr haha)
  2. The bookmarklet does exactly what I had to do manually for Posterous

In any case, I hope you enjoy and if you enjoy what you see, feel free to follow!
